There are many established scholars of international repute at Glendon, but they need improved infrastructure support to pursue their programs and strengthen international collaborations. Also, Glendon has hired more than 40 new faculty members over the last six years. Holding doctorates from such universities as Harvard, Yale, Oxford and the Sorbonne, as well as leading Canadian universities, they are fully committed to research programs. To maintain their momentum, they require additional support.
Christine Besnard, Associate Professor of French Studies, is among the inaugural faculty members of the Centre for Research on Language Contact. Her area of academic focus is the cognitive dimension of second language acquisition.
Francis Garon, Assistant Professor of Political Science and a new public affairs specialist at Glendon, says: “With its strong emphasis on public administration and bilingualism, Glendon provides a very stimulating environment.”
Through endowed professorships and chairs, Glendon can support and retain these faculty members. At the same time, it can attract internationally renowned scholars to further reinforce its distinctive strength in such areas as Public and International Affairs, La Francophonie, Translation and Cultural Studies, and Bilingualism and Languages Studies.
