Bruce Hicks: Justin Trudeau keeps the promise of John A. Macdonald

Bruce Hicks, BMO Visiting Fellow at York University’s Glendon School of Public & International Affairs wrote about how “Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau surprised everyone, especially longtime Liberal senators, by announcing his idea for Senate reform: From this point forward, the Senate would be non-partisan and, effective immediately, Trudeau was expelling all Liberal senators from his caucus, and thus freeing them to serve as independents”.  Read story

BMO Financial Group’s $1.25-million donation to Glendon campus

York University announced a $1.25-million gift from BMO Financial Group to the Glendon School of Public and International Affairs.  The program will receive $750,000 of this donation, which will go towards the development of public affairs programming, while the remaining $500,000 will fund visiting professorships. Glendon Team “Sweeps” Awards in Washington

A team of Glendon students made a huge impression at a model NATO conference earlier this month, virtually sweeping the awards at the end of the conference.  Otto Faludi, a first-year Master’s student in the Public and International Affairs Program, lead the Canadian delegation and acted as the team’s faculty advisor.  The team was comprised of five Master’s and four undergraduate students.  Read story

A Second Toronto Francophone Community Forum

The 2014 Forum focused on Francophone immigration to Toronto.  The key organizations in the Francophone community had public information booths for those in attendance, and there were three successive round tables.  Read story

The “Semaine de la Francophonie” is generating a lot of enthusiasm at Glendon College. Although the official celebration takes place from March 20 to 27, this bilingual campus of York University decided to accelerate and extend the timeline somewhat by welcoming the public from March 17 to 29.  Read story
