In his thank-you address to York University and Glendon College for the honorary degree he had just received on June 21, 2014, the Commissioner of Official Languages of Canada was quick to tell Glendon’s new graduates that mastering two or more languages is a true leadership skill. Read story
Jacques Gauthier – The Law and Human rights: A Passion
When talking with Jacques Gauthier, one quickly realizes just how passionate this French-speaking Toronto lawyer is about the law… and about human rights. On April 9, he gave a presentation to Glendon under-graduate students at the Jean Gabriel Castel International Studies Conference on the topic “international law and the issue of Jerusalem sovereignty.” Not surprisingly, the passion that drives Gauthier came through loud and clear. Multilevel Citizenship: The Case of Canada and the European Union
On the occasion of the Italian presidency of the European Union, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, in collaboration with Glendon College, presented a round table on questions of topical interest in September of this year, bringing together three recognized experts in the field of citizenship. Solange Belluz as an “executive-in-residence” at Glendon
Ms. Belluz comes to Glendon after assuming for more than twenty years, leadership roles in the Ontario government’s support of French-language education. She is currently Manager of the French-language continued learning unit in the French-Language Education Policy & Programs Branch of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities of the Ontario government. The Judith Baker Memorial Award in Philosophy
It was with great sadness that the Glendon Department of Philosophy learned of the passing on May 22, 2014 of Professor Judith Baker. She passed away just after her 76th birthday. Professor Baker made a significant contribution to the College and the Department for three decades as a faculty member, a colleague, a scholar and a model of intellectual creativity. Read story
The celebration of the Philippe Garigue Classroom
In June of this year, a new seminar room took the name “Philippe Garigue Classroom.” Thanks to a gift from Lorna Marsden, President Emeritus of York University and herself a sociologist, Glendon College was able to match the funds and name this new seminar room in Garigue’s Honour. Read story
Glendon Gallery: 2014-2015 Programming
From its inception as the first gallery in the City of North York in 1977, Glendon Gallery has steadily received the respect of the public and the professional arts community alike as a vital presence on the Toronto art scene. Focusing on contemporary art, the Glendon Gallery provides a monthly exhibition from September to May, with a mostly educational mission. The program for 2014-2015 is available online. See program
