ENVIRONMENTAL AND HEALTH STUDIES

Why Environmental and Health Studies at Glendon?

  • Our flexible, interdisciplinary approach is ideal for the broad range of subjects related to the environment and health.
  • Our beautiful, natural wooded ravine campus setting is a perfect “living laboratory” for ecological and environmental research, and the teaching of some ecological and environmental concepts. The Glendon campus includes several woodlots and a section of the Don River. Some lectures are taught outdoors, in the woodlots in and around our campus, and aspects of the local biodiversity can be explored during these lectures.
  • The founder of our program is Allan Sangster, one of Canada’s first environmentalists.  Radu Guiasu teaches a course exploring the history of human-environmental interactions, from the earliest known human hunter and gatherer groups to the present day, as well as courses in animal communication and conservation biology.  Professor Jocelyn Martel uses the Glendon Campus valley for course field trips and experiments in the area of human-insect interactions. Charles-Antoine Rouyer, Glendon graduate, journalist, and now faculty member, teaches a unique course on Communication, Health, and Environment, which examines the interrelationships between these three important areas. Spencer Mukai teaches the important Introductory Biology course, which prepares students for several other courses in our program.
  • Environmental and Health Studies is available as a bilingual or trilingual international Bachelor of Arts. For more details, visit www.glendon.yorku.ca/iBA
