BEd

Admissions
In your application to the Concurrent BEd program, you have two options. Firstly, you can apply directly from high school (direct-entry option) or you can apply while in your first year studies at Glendon (second year or delayed entry option).

The demand for spaces in our BEd French program is very high and the admissions process is competitive. Since there are several steps in the admission process, it's critical that you follow each step by the specified deadline.

Steps to apply directly from high school
If you're planning to apply to our Concurrent BEd program directly from high school, you will require:

  • Grade 12 marks in the high 80’s
  • Strong written and oral language abilities in both English and French
  • A strong supplementary application including two reference letters, and experience profile and a personal statement.

Once you've submitted your application via the Ontario Universities' Application Centre using OUAC code YGJ :

Step 1: French Language Assessment
Due by April 13

You'll receive an email from the Faculty of Education inviting you to complete the online French assessment: this is to help determine whether you would be comfortable with the French components of the BEd (French) program.

There's no special preparation required; this is the same assessment that all Glendon applicants fill out in order to place you in the appropriate level of French class during your Bachelor of Arts studies. For this reason, you won't need to fill out the assessment again as part of your enrollment process at Glendon.

Step 2: Supplementary form & additional information
Due by April 27

All BEd applicants are required to submit an online supplementary form and additional information, which will include:

  • An experience profile
  • A personal statement
  • Two reference letters

Once the supplementary application form and additional information are submitted, you will be charged a $50 processing fee.

Step 3: Grades assessment

Because you’re applying to two degree programs, admission for each of the programs (BA and BEd) will be processed separately. This means that you’ll receive an offer of admission for your BA program before you receive one for BEd.

In order to consider you for admission to the BEd (French), you'll need to have been admitted to your Glendon BA program based on your Grade 12 mid-term grades, which are submitted to OUAC by April 26th.

In addition, there will be a specific minimum cut-off set for admission to BEd (French). We expect that this cut-off will be in the high 80s.

Step 4: Offers of Admission
Based on the above criteria, we will extend offers of admission to successful applicants by mail.

If we're unable to offer you admission for the Direct Entry BEd program, you'll have the opportunity to re-apply for the second year entry program during your first year at Glendon. The benefits of this option include:

All supplementary information and documents that were submitted during your original application will be kept on file for one year; you won't be required to re-submit them if you re-apply to the program.

Step 5:  Enrolment
Once you’ve accepted your offer of admission to our Concurrent BEd French program through OUAC, you’ll need to take the first steps in enrolling yourself into both programs.

As a future French teacher, you will:

  • Be instructed on how to enroll yourself in the mandatory first-year BEd practicum seminar.
  • Continue to receive communications from the Faculty of Education with more in-depth orientation to the BEd when you are about to enroll in credit courses after you’ve completed your first year.

As a Glendon student, you will:

  • Receive information on how to book your enrollment appointment online through your MyFile account.

Note: You may be automatically directed to complete the distance enrolment process by email based on your address. If you’re in this situation and would prefer to attend a session on campus (we would strongly suggest that you do so if possible), please contact Academic Advising and we’ll be happy to book your appointment.

Steps to apply for second year (delayed) entry

Glendon students who are interested in the Concurrent BEd program can apply during their first year to become a French teacher or to teach something other than French.

Second year entry for Concurrent BEd French

These steps are for Glendon applicants who haven't already submitted an application to the direct-entry BEd French program, or who had applied but weren't admitted directly out of high school. In addition, you'll need to:

  • Have completed 24 credits (equivalent to four full-year courses) by the end of April of your first year
  • Have strong written and oral language abilities in both English and French
  • Have a strong supplementary application including two reference letters, an experience profile and a personal statement.

If the above applies to you, please follow the steps below.

  1. Visit the Faculty of Education website to review the application instructions and complete the Faculty of Education online supplementary application by April 27, 2012.

  2. The Faculty of Education will contact you directly via email about your next steps, including:
