BEd French Brochure
Concurrent & Consecutive BEd French brochure

BEd

To be a teacher in Ontario, you need to obtain two degrees:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in your choice of study (e.g. Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc)
    and
  • A Bachelor of Education degree (BEd)

Concurrent and Consecutive: the difference
In Ontario, there are two distinct ways to earn your BEd; concurrently or consecutively.

In the Concurrent Bachelor of Education program, you:

  • Take BEd courses at the same time as your BA courses
  • Would typically complete your studies in five years (instead of the four years it takes for most students to complete the Honours BA only)
  • Graduate with two degrees at the same time

As a Glendon student, you have the option to :

For the Consecutive Bachelor of Education program, you:

  • Have already completed another undergraduate degree
  • Could pursue the Glendon BEd French part-time over the course of three years (Glendon consecutive program not available full-time)
  • Could complete your BEd full-time over the course of one year at the Keele Campus

What should I major in?
Many Glendon BEd (French) students choose to major in French Studies (Études françaises), although you’re more than welcome to major in any other program that you’re interested in.

Many students who wish to teach in the intermediate/senior levels choose to major in another subject (i.e, English, Canadian Studies, Spanish) in order to fulfill the courses for their teachable requirements.

For more information on teaching subjects, visit this page and scroll to the bottom, under certification levels.
