Which application form to use:

Apply through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) for September, January, and May entry. If applying exclusively to York, you can also apply directly via the website.

What to send with your application:

Please send all required documents as soon as you apply. It may take 3 – 4 weeks for us to receive documents mailed from outside Canada.

  1. Transcripts
    Official transcripts for all college or university courses you’ve completed, even if you studied part time or several years ago. If you’re currently completing courses, send a transcript showing your course enrolment and grades to date as soon as you apply and then again at the end of the semester.Also, please send high-school transcripts if you have completed secondary studies within the past five years.
  2. Language test results (if required).
  3. Letters/résumé
    If you have taken time away from studying, send us a letter and/or résumé outlining your activities since completing your studies (e.g. work, traveling, family responsibilities).Send us a résumé and a one- to two-page letter outlining:

  4. your reasons for wanting to attend university;
  5. your future career goals;
  6. skills and activities that have prepared you for success at university, including work or volunteer experience, professional development activities, personal study and interests;
  7. explanations/documentation for any previous poor academic performance.
  8. College or university course descriptions
    To assess your eligibility for transfer credit, we need detailed
    course descriptions for any academic studies completed outside of Canada or the United States at an accredited college or university. These descriptions must be prepared by your former institution or be on the institution’s web site.

NOTE:

Official transcripts must be sent to the Office of Admissions directly from the educational institution or sent in an institutionally-sealed envelope (that remains unopened). Transcripts, certificates, and other formal academic credentials not in English or French must also be translated by a certified translator and included with the original document.Make sure you use the same name on all documentation when you are submitting them to York University. This will ensure that your application is processed without delay.

You can check your application status throughout the process by logging on to MyFile. You’ll need your York or OUAC reference number to log in.

Offers of admission are conditional upon final grades.
