Artistic Approach
The work of Pierre Tremblay is often a reinterpretation of classical themes in art history: landscapes, portraits, abstraction and questions perception in a world where our senses are over stimulated.
Description
Through the lens of his video camera, Pierre Tremblay invites us into his neighbourhood, Scarborough Bluffs, on the shores of Lake Ontario. On foot or riding a bicycle, we follow paths that veer from the figurative to the abstract.
Urban landscapes are transformed before our eyes. Each visual sequence contains its own geometry, movement and light through mounting, splicing and super-imposition. The continual looping reminds us of seasonal change and space renewal, enhanced by added sounds, both ambient and distinct like the wind, chirping birds, trickling streams, the sound traffic and bicycle tires on gravel.
Continuum is a constantly evolving work, creating a perpetual movement reminiscent of Tibetan prayer wheels. Continuum speaks to us of nature in an urban setting, the ebb and flow of the seasons, and the poetry of perception.
Biographical note
