Toronto April 12, 2010 – Dig it up is the title of the first year York University MFA student group exhibition presented at the Glendon Gallery from April 20 to 30.   

Dig it up proposes the archaeological dig as a metaphor for the layers of meaning that the works both evoke and address directly. The sensibility reflected in this group exhibition also confirms the desire of contemporary artists to reconnect with their past and to engage with the challenging plurality of practices today. From installation work to photography, performance, painting, “maquettes”, paper work and time-based projects, the terrain keeps shifting, the base culture keeps reappearing and changing so that the question of where we are coming from and where we are going remains pressing and actual.
