Why I chose to do a double major in English to French Translation and Hispanic Studies...

I love Spanish and I wanted to learn as much as possible about Latin America, which totally fascinates me. I wanted to become a translator in the three languages, however, since the Certificate is only offered in English-Spanish, I could not enroll in it. But I had a plan: learn Spanish, learn about English to French Translation, and apply that knowledge so as to translate three-directionally. And it works!

The highlight of my experience...

Being part of the Hispanic Club, which was very active and had numerous members in my days, gave me an incredible opportunity to practice my Spanish and allowed me to meet extraordinary people who, to this day, are still my dearest friends.

I also had a great time participating in two Spanish plays. I acted in one and directed another.

My one-year academic exchange at the Universidad de las Américas Puebla in Mexico changed my life forever and definitely helped me become fully fluent in Spanish.

What I learned...

I learned a lot about the cultural, economical, historical, social and political aspects of life in Latin America. I was introduced to the wonderful world of Spanish literature. I also learned that what you learn in a university is really up to you. The Hispanic Studies Department provides a great framework for learning, but you have to do the rest. Get involved. Travel. But most importantly, don't let anything or anyone stop you from SPEAKING Spanish as often as possible!
