INTERNATIONAL STUDIES

Program Requirements

Students may enrol in an Honours BA, an Honours Major / Minor BA, an Honours Double Major BA or a Specialized Honours BA.  Note that not all courses listed below will be offered in any one year.  Students should consult with the Departmental Chair and/or the Student Advisor before choosing courses.

NOTE: Graduate Studies

Students should take into consideration that most graduate programs require a course in international relations and introductory courses in micro-economics and macro-economics. Some require International Economics (Trade and Finance) and/or an upper year level course in methodology. Students who intend to apply to a graduate program in International Studies after completing their B.A. at York should carefully check the requirements of the program(s) they intend to apply for and ensure that required courses are included in their undergraduate program. They can best fulfill the requirements by doing a Double Major Program, combining a major in International Studies and a major in another program at Glendon.

The Department of International Studies offers the following program options:

Specialized Honours BA

Students will take at least 60 credits including 27 credits of core courses, 24 credits of compulsory courses namely:

GL/ECON 2500 3.0(EN) Introduction to Microeconomics
GL/ECON 2510 3.0(EN) Introduction to Macroeconomics
GL/POLS/ILST 2920 6.0(EN) Introduction to International Relations
GL/HIST/ILST 2930 6.0(EN) The Twentieth Century: A Global Perspective
GL/ILST 4000 6.0(EN) Honours Thesis    or
GL/ILST 4300 6.0(EN) Professional Internship

and 9 credits in International Studies and/or from the list of approved courses.


Honours BA

Students will take at least 42 credits including 27 credits of core courses and 15 credits in International Studies and/or from the list of approved courses. (12 credits at the 4000 level).


Honours Double Major BA

Students will take at least 42 credits including 27 credits of core courses and 15 credits in International Studies and/or from the list of approved courses.


Honours Major/Minor BA

Students will take at least 42 credits including 27 credits of core courses and 15 credits in International Studies and/or from the list of approved courses.
