Understanding Your Online Student Account

Important Notes:

:: We can't give out information about your account over the phone

:: York does not mail out statements

It’s a good idea to check your online student account regularly for any changes or fees that you may owe.

Statements (updated monthly)

Your statement is a snapshot of the transactions on your account from about the 18th of one month to the 18th of the following month. On your statement you can see your total account balance, and the 'minimum payment due this month' to the University. (If this amount shows as zero, no payment is due for the month in question.)\

Transactions (updated daily)

Using the 'view transactions' feature, you can see any recent charges, payments or credits to your student account, and see any financial impact from adding or dropping courses. This is a good way to check to see if we have received your payment.

Paying Your Student Account

Remember that paying your fees is your responsibility. Even if someone else is helping you pay your fees, it is still your responsibility to ensure that your student account is kept in good standing. We cannot give out information about your account to anyone but you. If someone else is making a payment on your behalf, make sure to give them your student number and the amount that needs to be paid!

PLEASE NOTE: the university does not take payments

in person. You can Pay your fees at the bank.

The following are the methods of payment accepted by York University.

  • From a Canadian bank account:Through online, telephone, or in-person banking.
  • From a bank outside of Canada: Using the Travelex Bank-to-Bank service (see below)

Online or telephone banking instructions
The best way for you to pay your fees is through online or telephone banking. There are no line ups and you can pay any time of the day or night. Just follow these easy steps:

  • Add York University to your list of payees to make a payment.
  • Use your York student number as the account number.
  • The bank's system will give you a confirmation number for your records.
  • It takes about 4 business days for your payment to be transferred to your York student account.
  • As long as you pay by web or phone by the due date your payment will be accepted as on time. (We always allow a few extra days after any due date so that your payments can get to York from the bank in time and you won't be penalized.)
  • Contact your financial institution if you need assistance in setting up your account to send payments to the university.

Travelex Bank-to-Bank Transfer

International students who are making a payment from outside of Canada should use the Travelex Bank-to-Bank Transfer. When you use this service...

  • You make your payment in the currency of your choice which Travelex will then convert to Canadian Dollars.
  • There are no transaction charges from Travelex or York University, though you may be charged a transaction fee by your bank.
  • The exchange rate is valid for 72 hours after you have initiated the transaction if your confirmation and payment is received by Travelex within that period.
  • The exchange rate is competitive when compared to retail rates of your financial institution and for many students their bank service fees are also reduced because the transaction is being initiated as a local transfer.
  • Payments received will include your reference information and will ensure that your payment reaches your student account quickly.
