iBA Programs
| Glendon has added a new and interesting concept to its liberal arts programs, while tailoring requirements and standards to meet the College’s specifications. The “international” undergraduate degree provides a framework for combining pre-existing undergraduate programs with the study of global issues and languages as well as an international exchange experience. |
The iBA (Bilingual or Trilingual) allows Glendon students to specialize in any of the discipline(s) that follow:
There are 5 requirements that must be satisfied within the iBA Program. They are:
1. Major Requirement
For the major requirements, students should consult their iBA program checklist.
Please note the Glendon Residency Requirement:
No student may
receive a BA degree through Glendon unless the student has completed at
least 30 credits of the program within York, including at least 50 per
cent of the credits required in their major and minor within the
Faculty of Glendon.
2. International Exchange Requirement
Candidates are required to complete at least one full term abroad as full-time students at
an institution with which Glendon and/or York has a formal exchange agreement.
For more information, please contact the Office of the Associate Principal Student Services, C112, York Hall.
3. Internationally-Oriented Course Requirement
Students must take at least 12 credits from the list of approved courses.
4. Language Requirements
For the iBA bilingual, students must complete at least 18 credits in each official language (English and French) at Glendon (French as a second language and/or in English as a second language at the 2000 level or above or in discipline courses which are designated as satisfying the bilingual requirement). THIS REQUIREMENT MUST BE COMPLETED AT GLENDON;
For the iBA trilingual, in addition to the 18 credits in each official language (English and French), 18 credits in Hispanic studies (including GL/SP 3000 6.00 or six credits of an advanced level course) or 18 credits in a modern language offered by York University (including six credits of an advanced-level course in the chosen language) must be completed. THIS REQUIREMENT MUST BE COMPLETED EITHER AT GLENDON OR AT THE KEELE CAMPUS.
5. General Education Requirement
Students must complete the equivalent of at least 6 credits in each of three of the four General Education divisions: Humanities, Modes of reasoning, Natural Science, Social Science.
The programs are offered in two separate formats: bilingual and trilingual. The two programs allow students to develop a high level of proficiency in both of Canada’s official languages through studying in English and French, and the trilingual programs require students to fulfill a third-language requirement.
Program Options
iBA Specialized Honours – Students will select only one major, and will study this area in depth.
iBA Honours – Students will select one major, however will take less courses in this area than they
would in a Specialized Honours.
iBA Honours Double Major – Students will select two majors as their program focus
iBA Honours Major / Minor – Students will select one major and one minor for the focus of their program.
Admissions
The admission requirements for the iBA are the same as those for the existing BA programs. Students who wish to transfer from a BA (Honours) to the iBA during or after Year 1 can do so provided they are eligible to proceed in an Honours program. The academic policies and regulations concerning grades, rate of progress, academic standing, and appeal for existing BA programs will apply to the iBA. |
