Public Transit

To get around Toronto, look no further than the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), one of the best public transit systems in North America. With an extensive network of subway lines, buses and streetcars, the TTC makes exploring the city a breeze. Purchasing a ticket or subway token provides riders with a one-way trip anywhere in the city. If you request a transfer when you pay for your ticket or token, you can move free of charge between subways, buses and streetcars as you complete your trip. Exact fare is required on buses and streetcars.

The cost of a single one-way fare is $3.25 (2016 rates).

The cost of a monthly metropass can be found on the TTC website. Note: To use a student metropass, you will need to acquire TTC photo ID at Sherbourne Station.

The Toronto subway map will no doubt come in handy when planning your trip.

Taxis

Taxis can often be hailed on the street. Alternately, you can call a cab company or use a mobile app to order a vehicle to a specific address. The cost of a taxi ride starts at $4.25, with $1.50 for each additional kilometre. Remember to tip the driver between 10% and 15%. Most cab companies will accept reservations.
