Estudio de la civilización y de la historia de España con especial énfasis en los diferentes períodos literarios. Este curso sirve de introducción general y básica para capacitar a los estudiantes a seguir cursos avanzados del programa de español.

GL/SP 3245 3.0  Specialized Studies in Language, Composition and Translation / Estudios especializados en lengua, composición y traducción
Este curso se propone acrecentar y perfeccionar la capacidad lingüística adquirida en el curso GL/SP 2610 6.0 así como desarrollar la habilidad de los estudiantes para escribir, redactar y traducir en un nivel avanzado.

GL/SP 3250 3.0 Studies in Stylistics and Translation / Estudios en estilística y traducción
Este curso se propone dos objetivos: 1) Proporcionar a los estudiantes de español los elementos necesarios para el análisis estilístico.2) Ofrecer a los estudiantes los fundamentos de la teoría y la práctica de la traducción. 

GL/SP 3300 6.0 Literatura, cultura y sociedad hispanoamericana desde la época precolonial hasta el presente
Este curso examina el desarrollo de géneros literarios en Hispanoamérica en el contexto de circunstancias históricas, culturales y sociales. El curso estudia principios fundamentales de varias teorías literarias y su aplicación al análisis crítico de textos representativos.

GL/TRAN 3260 3.0 Documentation / Documentación
This course offers a practical introduction to documentation and its applications for translation and terminology. Classification systems and various kinds of documentation are studied along with concept systems. Research is done through various resources and media.

GL/TRAN 3270 3.0 Theory of Translation / Teoría de la traducción
This course explores historical, linguistic, and philosophical approaches to the field of translation studies from various theoretical perspectives. It covers canonical texts on translation, particularly from the Western tradition.

GL/TRAN 4370 3.0 Terminology / Terminología
This course provides a practical introduction to terminological principles and their applications for translation. It includes an introduction to and hands-on practice with databases and computer tools and resources for terminology management.

GL/SP 4610 3.0 The Specialized Practice of Spanish-English / English -Spanish Translation
Tools from applied linguistics and stylistics for the translators' practice are used to analyze and translate a variety of texts and documents pertaining to Canadian history and to contemporary Canadian culture and society.

GL/SP 4615 3.0 Advanced Literary and Cultural Translation / Traducción literaria y cultural avanzada
This course teaches advanced practice and reflection processes on literary and cultural translation. Notions of literary and critical theory are applied to translate literary texts used by Canadian and Hispanic-Canadian authors.

GL/SP 4620 3.0 Advanced Spanish-English/English-Spanish Translation: Editing and Revision / Traducción avanzada español-inglés/inglés-español: Redacción y revisión
This course offers an in-depth theoretical reflection on the translation process acquired in previous courses. Students participate in translation projects while applying techniques of project management, editing and revision. Special attention is given to texts from the health sciences.

GL/SP 4625 3.0 Translation Practicum/Advanced Translation Research Project / Pasantía en traducción/Proyecto de investigación a nivel avanzado
This course has a double modality; students can elect one of the following options: 1. An advanced practice in translation by means of a practicum in a community-based Hispanic-Canadian agency or 2. A long-range advanced translation research project of a scientific or literary text.
