The course examines the development of literary genres in Spanish America within the context of historical, cultural and social circumstances. This course broadens and refines students’ linguistic skills acquired in GL/SP 3000 6.00 (formerly GL/SP 2610 6.00) by developing their ability to write and translate at an advanced level. Classification systems and various kinds of documentation are studied along with concept systems. Research is done through various resources and media. This course explores historical, linguistic, and philosophical approaches to the field of translation studies from various theoretical perspectives. It covers canonical texts on translation, particularly from the Western tradition.

This course provides a practical introduction to terminological principles and their applications for translation. It includes an introduction to and hands-on practice with databases and computer tools and resources for terminology management. This course provides intensive translation practice of pragmatic texts. Tools from translation studies and applied linguistics are used to analyze and translate a variety of texts focusing on subjects relevant to Canadian society. Language of Instruction: English/Spanish.
GL/SP 4915 3.00 (SP/EN) Advanced Literary and Cultural Translation / Traducción literaria y cultural avanzada (anteriormente GL/SP 4615 3.00)
This course provides advanced practice and reflection on the translation of literary texts. Notions of literary and critical theory are applied to analyze and translate literary texts in variety of genres and from diverse cultural contexts, with an emphasis on Canadian cultural realities. GL/SP 4920 3.00 (SP/EN) Advanced Spanish-English/English-Spanish Translation: Editing and Revision / Traducción avanzada español-inglés/inglés-español: Redacción y revisión (anteriormente GL/SP 4620 3.00)
This course offers advanced theoretical and methodological tools for the translation practice. Students participate in translation projects while using translation technologies and applying techniques of project management and editing and revision. Special attention is given to texts from the health sciences. Language of Instruction: English/Spanish.

This course offers students one of the following two modalities: 1. An advanced practice in translation by means of a practicum in a Canadian community-based agency or institution; 2.
