The Spanish (Hispanic Studies) Program and the Drama Studies Program of Glendon College and Theatre Glendon, are pleased to announce this year’s production of:
The House of Trials (Los empeños de una casa), a romantic comedy of intrigue by the much- acclaimed and controversial 17th century nun, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.
This year the Spanish Program offered the course GL/SP 4605: Spanish and/or Latin American Theatre: from Drama to Performance, cross-listed with the Drama Studies Program. Upper-year students participating in this Spanish course have had the opportunity to learn about theatre by closely examining plays from Spain and Latin America, and the aesthetic movements and socio-political events that influenced these works, with a special focus on contemporary female playwrights in Spain.
In addition to obtaining a theoretical framework of theatre studies, students were taught about the art of staging a theatre production. As a requirement of the course, the students’ final project is to perform one of the selected texts. Under the direction of the Drama Studies Department, the students are pleased to step into their roles to bring you their very own interpretation of Sor Juana’s masterpiece of comic theatre. Since this course is not offered every year, you are invited to attend this unique Spanish language production of her famous Hispanic Baroque play to show your support for our Glendon students, many of whom will be performing in a theatre production for the very first time!
Be prepared for music, poetry, romance, sword-fights, mistaken identities, cross-dressing, and so much more!
Please join us on Friday, April 10th, and Saturday, April 11th, 2015, at the Glendon Theatre, located at 2275 Bayview Avenue, at 7:00 pm.
