All Glendon degrees include one of two language requirements. The language requirement that applies to you depends on which degree you are pursuing.
Flexible Language Requirement
Applies to students pursuing the Glendon BA with flexible language option.
Requirement: Complete 6 credits in your second official language (French or English) at the level of placement at Glendon.
Eligible programs with English as the dominant language:
Business Economics, Economics, English, Gender & Women’s Studies, Hispanic Studies, History, International Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Sexuality Studies, and
Sociology

Bilingual Requirement
Applies to students in the following bilingual degree programs: Bilingual BA, Bilingual Honours BA, Bilingual BSc, Bilingual Honours BSc
Requirement:
Complete 6 credits in French from the following options:
- French second language courses (GL/FSL) at the 2000-level. Only open to students whose dominant language is not French.
And/or - Discipline courses (i.e., non language courses) that are taught in French.
Note: A Bilingual Requirement Form must be submitted for discipline courses taken in a student’s non dominant language. See below for details. - Excludes:
- FSL courses at the 1000-level
- FRAN courses at 1000-level
- SP courses
- Courses taught in two languages
Complete 6 credits in English from the following options:
- English second language courses (GL/ENSL) at the 2000-level or higher. Only open to students whose dominant language is not English.
And/or - Discipline courses (i.e., non language courses) that are taught in English. A Bilingual Requirement Form must be submitted for discipline courses taken in a student’s non dominant language. See below for details.
- Excludes:
- ENSL courses at 1000-level
- SP courses
- Courses taught in two languages
Bilingual Requirement Form
Required for discipline courses taken in your non-dominant language
- The discipline course must be taught in the student’s second language.
- The course can be taught at any level.
- All of the required work completed in the courses, including exams, tests, essays, etc, must be completed in the language of instruction of the course.
- The following courses do not satisfy the Bilingual Requirement:
- All FRAN 1000-level courses
- All FSL 1000-level courses
- All ENSL 1000-level courses
- All SP courses
- All courses taught in two languages or in any language other than English and French
Deadlines and submission
This form should be signed by the professor at the end of the course as proof that all course work has been completed in the student’s second language. Once signed, the form should be submitted to Academic Services, York Hall C102, or scanned and emailed to acadservices@glendon.yorku.ca.
