What a fantastic year we’ve had together! And it’s all thanks to your generous contributions to Glendon.

Because of your support, 2018-2019 was a banner year for fundraising and for impact on our campus.

Together, we raised $2 million in contributions to ensure that all students have access to a high-quality education and that financial need is not a barrier for anyone attending post-secondary.

As a valued part of our Glendon community, your generosity is helping support 384 students with gifts of all sizes to new and established bursaries, scholarships and other awards. In fact, 70% of funds donated to Glendon directly support students.

Many donors like you tell me that they were once recipients of financial aid themselves and this inspires them to give back each year. Now more than ever, supporting our students to alleviate the financial stresses of post-secondary education is critical.

I want to thank you for encouraging our students to pursue their dreams with your gifts! Our students are so appreciative of your support for their education.

I’d like to introduce you to four recipients of financial aid at Glendon to share with you the impact you have made in their lives.

As I mentioned in our 2017-2018 donor report, experiential education and classroom renovations in York Hall were also a priority over the last year. Thanks to your support, our first flexible classroom, York Hall 245, is now complete and we were able to fund 11 students with awards of $1,000 each to attend international experiential education opportunities.

Thanks to your support, our first flexible classroom, York Hall 245, is now complete. This classroom has been designed and built to meet the ever-changing needs of a modern learning environment.

Here are a few photos of the transformation:

I’m also excited to tell you a little about our progress on funding experiential education.

Thanks to you, we were able to fund 11 students with awards of $1,000 each to attend international experiential education opportunities. Here is a snapshot of one of the opportunities where your support made an impact by reducing the financial barrier to participating:

Offered by the Department of Hispanic Studies at Glendon in collaboration with the Faculty of Environmental Studies at York, the Narratives in Costa Rica. Individuals, Communities and their Voices course is taught entirely in Costa Rica and primarily in the Biologic Corridor Alexander Skutch, where York University’s Eco-Campus is located.

In the summer of 2019, before starting their narrative field work, students learned theories and methods of narrative research, and participated in two method-oriented workshops: one dealing with oral autobiography and the other with life story interviewing. These allowed students to relate to the course subject, while acquiring research tools and developing a sense of their own narrative construction and the value of their stories, their memory and their subjectivity.

Thank you again! We are accomplishing some amazing things together and I am so excited about what this next year holds in store.

With your support, we’ll be able to provide even more students with tremendous learning opportunities and make an even bigger impact on their lives.

If you have any questions about how your gift makes an impact, please contact me personally.
