Donald Ipperciel

Gregory Sorbara appointed the 13th chancellor of York University

Julia Foster, chair of the Board of Governors of York University, and Mamdouh Shoukri, president and vice-chancellor, announced Monday that Gregory Sorbara has been appointed York University’s 13th chancellor for a three-year term.  Sorbara will be officially installed as chancellor in June.  As ceremonial head, Sorbara will serve as lead ambassador of York, preside over all convocation ceremonies and confer degrees. Read story

New Principal Appointed:  Donald Ipperciel

York University President and Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri announced the appointment of Professor Donald Ipperciel to the position of Principal of Glendon College.  A committee formed by the President of the University recommended the appointment of Professor Ipperciel following an extensive national and international search.  He took up his new post on July 1, 2014.  Read story

Cocktail Journalism : A Review of Pro Tem’s First Annual Speaker Event

Pro Tem successfully hosted its inaugural speaker event, titled Cocktail Journalism: What It Takes to Get Into the Mix. Pro Tem was York University’s original student newspaper, founded in 1962; now, it carries on as Glendon Campus’ bilingual newspaper. Cocktail Journalism was an event designed to bring together Glendon alumni who have since gone on to become journalists, editors, documentary filmmakers, and freelance writers. Six speakers attended the event: John Spears, Ed Drass, Larry Krotz, John King, Christopher Hume, and Charles-Antoine Rouyer. Read story

My good feelings about Glendon go back half a century.  Fifty years ago this spring I saw the campus for the first time when an acquaintance who taught at York gave me a tour.  I remember admiring the attractive grounds and the splendid view over the Don Valley.  The campus stuck me as a very agreeable place.  Read story
