Challenges in teaching Chinese-English Translation: from process to product

Xiaoyan Wang is a Lecturer of School of Translation Studies, Xi’an International Studies University (XISU). She obtained her first MA in English Language and Literature (Translation Theory and Practice) from XISU in 2004; then a Postgraduate Diploma in English Language Teaching from NIE, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2007 and her second MA in Applied Linguistics from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2009. Her academic interests focus on: contrastive linguistics and translation (between English and Chinese), the cognitive process of translation, translation strategies, translation pedagogy, translators’ competence, meta-cognitive awareness in translation, so on and so forth. Major undergraduate courses instructed by her at STS of XISU include: An Introduction to Translation Basics; Contrastive Linguistics and Translation between English and Chinese; Contrasts between English and Chinese Words and Translation; Contrasts between English and Chinese Syntax and Translation; Introduction to English Linguistics, Advanced English Writing; and English Listening Comprehension, etc. She has published two international conference papers, and four academic papers (in Chinese), and is the second author of the book Business English Translation Studies. Besides, she has completed one research project granted by the Social Science Federation of Shaanxi Province. The Chinese University Student Innovative Practice Project supervised by her in 2015 has won the innovation award of the national level. Starting from August 24, 2016, she is visiting York University, Canada for one year as a visiting scholar, working on her research project “Translation Theories in MTI Pedagogy and Translator Training: Significance, Weightage, and Teaching Method”.
