International Baccalaureat (IB) Diploma

Simply put, Glendon is a perfect fit for IB students.

From the beginning, Glendon’s mission has been to develop future leaders. Our vision aligns with the International Baccalaureate Organization: to develop knowledgeable, inquisitive, caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world. Even our motto, Alteri Saeculo, means ‘for future generations’.

Our students and professors are passionate about social justice, human rights, domestic and global politics, international development, languages, and much more: it’s no wonder why so many of our grads go on to find work in the legal system, the diplomatic service, the government of Canada, the United Nations, international field work, and the list goes on.

Academic excellence in a close-knit community

Glendon attracts strong students; our average entering grade is an A. Our students are treated not only to classes taught by faculty who are renowned in their fields – many of them internationally – but also to classes of a remarkably small size. Set all this in our close campus community, and you’ve got yourself primed for continued academic success.

A degree without borders

We rank #3 in Canada for global focus (2012 Globe and Mail University Report). Our bilingual and trilingual iBA degrees are the only of their kind in Canada, offering internationally-focused courses, advanced language certification, and an international exchange built right into the program. Looking to expand your international repertoire even further? You could also consider our International Studies major, or the many international student clubs on campus.

More transfer credits mean you’ll complete your degree faster

We value the experience you’ve had as an IB student, and we show it by offering you university-level transfer credits for your IB classes. As a leading university in transfer credit assessment, we offer IB students up to one year’s worth of credits – meaning that you’ll be one year closer to graduating and changing the world.

Advanced language certifications

Our approach to languages is distinct: every Glendonite graduates with bilingual certification, many students study in three languages, and everyone has the benefit of our language immersion environment on campus.

As an IB student with a high level French, you could reach our minimum requirement faster, and then upgrade to higher levels of certification like the Certificate of Bilingual Excellence.

Care to add Spanish to your tool belt? We also offer a Certificate of Trilingual Excellence.

Requesting a Deferral

A deferral is a postponement of your admission to York. York recognizes that after being newly admitted, some applicants encounter unique personal circumstances that represent legitimate reasons for requesting a deferral of admission to the next academic session.

Newly admitted first-year students for September entry may request a deferral through our Deferral Form. The University grants deferrals at its discretion, only in highly exceptional cases and on a restricted basis. All conditions must be satisfied before a deferral will be granted.

Offers of admission are conditional upon final grades.
