Favourite event I have attended in the past:

My favourite event I attended as a resident was the ice cream social. You get to put on your best pjs, hang out with friends and who doesn’t love free ice cream right?

The event I am most excited about planning this upcoming year:

Going onto my 6th year living in residence and 5th year working in residence, I have attended amazing events every year! What I’m most excited for is the fresh ideas this creative incoming team has and I can’t wait to see what they come up with!

One piece of advice for incoming residents:

Make sure to stock up on snacks for studying! You don’t want to get hungry when the caf is closed for the night!

Favourite event I have attended in the past:

My favourite event that I have attended as a resident has been Don Sweets because it is the perfect way to get to know the don team, both residence buildings, and your fellow residents, plus you get to enjoy some awesome snacks as an added bonus!

The event I am most excited about planning this upcoming year:

I am really excited about planning the Reslife Kickoff. It’s a great opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate the coming year and start the year off on the right foot.

One piece of advice for incoming residents:

My one piece of advice would be to get involved whenever possible. Life in residence has so much to offer, and it only gets better the more involved you are!

Favourite event I have attended in the past:

Every year, I love participating in “Don Sweets” since it allows me to meet several people who live in residence (while eating treats).

The event I am most excited about planning this upcoming year:

I look forward to planning a “photo opportunity” for my residents. Our campus is so beautiful and it serves as the perfect setting for your next Instagram.

One piece of advice for incoming residents:

Try your best to keep your room clean! Especially when things get super busy, it is great to have your own mini oasis to escape to and/or buckle down to get work done.

Favourite event I have attended in the past:

I really enjoyed events that involved decorating the common rooms in residence- it was always a fun project to create an elaborately decorated room and have a creative outlet alongside a place to connect. Plus, the end result of these events always helped make our space truly feel like our own.

The event I am most excited about planning this upcoming year:

I am so excited to work on planning a Get to Know You Game Night to help facilitate connection-building within B House and help break the ice for residents and students who are new to campus and/or university life.

One piece of advice for incoming residents:

Keep your door open as much as possible during your first week in residence! This is an invitation to other residents and will help you connect with your neighbours and other students in the Reslife community.

Favourite event I have attended in the past:

Really any event that I have gotten free food at in the past has been my favourite event haha, which happens more often than not. Really though, I think that my favourite event that I have attended as a resident in the past was a Bob Ross paint night. I got to relax with other fun people who were pretty much on the same level in terms of artistic talent, and yet we all managed to end up with a pretty nice piece of art in the end to decorate our rooms! It was a nice night to relax and de-stress.

The event I am most excited about planning this upcoming year:

This year I am planning several events that will have free food, but I think I am the most excited for the one where we make our own pizzas (with dough made from scratch). I’m excited because I did this event once in the past, and it went very well, and my residents were super creative with the toppings. In addition, residents get to acquire a skill that they can use in their daily lives.

One piece of advice for incoming residents:

Despite what you may think, house meetings and events in residence really do make the difference. You don’t only get important information, but you make connections, check in with your residence family and Don, and most importantly, you’re almost guaranteed FREE FOOD!

Favourite event I have attended in the past:

My favourite event was Halloween because I had the chance to meet a lot of Dons and also to see a lot of other students while being entitled to candy.

The event I am most excited about planning this upcoming year:

I am very much looking forward to participating in activities related to studies because I know it can help a lot of students not procrastinate.

One piece of advice for incoming residents:

One piece of advice would be to actually focus on finding a balance between your studies and your free time by being organized.

Favourite event I have attended in the past:

I’d have to say that my favourite Reslife event is Don Suites because it’s such a great chance to socialize with other Dons and those in residence. I also really enjoy seeing new ways of decorating and how other’s manifest their own personal style through their dorm rooms!

The event I am most excited about planning this upcoming year:

As a first time Don, I am really looking forward to organizing and managing residence activities. The event that excites me the most to help plan is a night of coffee and board games. I’ve run this kind of event before and it’s always been fun!

One piece of advice for incoming residents:

One piece of advice I have for incoming residents is don’t change who you are to make meaningful connections in university. The best relationships are formed by being open, honest and authentic.

Favourite event I have attended in the past:

My favourite event I attended as a resident was in my first year. It was an inter-house scavenger hunt, and one of the only events I got the courage to attend that year. I had a blast and got to know some of the other residents in my house a lot better, and encouraged me to be more active in the residence community.

The event I am most excited about planning this upcoming year:

I am most excited to plan Don Sweets for this next year! As a resident, it has always been one of my favourite events to attend and I am so excited to be able to bring it back next year and ensure that everyone enjoys it as much as I have in the past.

One piece of advice for incoming residents:

The reslife community is a perfect opportunity to meet a new group of friends, and to get to know other people. You don’t know who your new best friend will be!

Favourite event I have attended in the past:

My favorite event I attended was a bingo game in Hilliard’s basement! There were several prizes to win and plenty of food! I really liked that the event took place during the exam period. It was a good chance to take a break and have fun!

The event I am most excited about planning this upcoming year:

I’m looking forward to holding a baking event this year! Baking brings everyone together with the common goal to make something delicious to share! And who doesn’t love free food?!

One piece of advice for incoming residents:

My advice to new residents is to keep your doors open as much as possible, especially during frosh week! You’ll make a lot of new friends!

Favourite event I have attended in the past:

My favourite event I attended in residence was Don Sweets. This is a great opportunity to meet all the Dons and all the residents! And, you can eat food, what’s better than that?!

The event I am most excited about planning this upcoming year:

The event I am most excited about planning is a stress busters/ mind fullness event. Mental health is so important, and sometimes school can be a little stressful. Learning new ways to de-stress, especially around exam season is essential.

One piece of advice for incoming residents:

Don’t ever be afraid to ask for help! We are all students and we all need help occasionally- we are all here to help each other!

Favourite event I have attended in the past:

My favorite event that I attended in the past was the decoration of the common room for the holiday season in December. This activity gives everyone a chance to spend time together before the end of the semester and relax a bit during the first exam period of the year.

The event I am most excited about planning this upcoming year:

The event I am most excited to plan this year is an anti-stress craft night! I’m hoping this event allows residents to relax and make something that adds a nice touch to their residence room.

One piece of advice for incoming residents:

A tip for incoming residents this year would be to always participate in the events offered in residence and be open to meeting new friends.

Favourite event I have attended in the past:

In past years, I really enjoyed attending baking events! I’m not the best baker, so it was a great way to develop that skill and leave with a delicious snack!

The event I am most excited about planning this upcoming year:

The event I’m most excited to plan is my Grammy Awards Party Event. It’s a great way to take a break from the craziness of assignments, socialize with other students and relax while listening to the amazing music that came out throughout the past year.

One piece of advice for incoming residents:

It’s a new year, and you have new neighbours. Open your door for an hour or two. You could meet someone new!

Favourite event I have attended in the past:

As a resident (and extreme extrovert) I loved attending Don Sweets. This event is a true GL ResLife staple that allows you to meet not only all of the dons on the team, but to chat with so many of the other residents who also call GL home!

The event I am most excited about planning this upcoming year:

I am most excited this year to run a “Plants and Planners” event where my residents and I will be talking about how to make a schedule that works for them in university, while also getting to pick a succulent to take back to their new home in F house.

One piece of advice for incoming residents:

My tips for succeeding in residence as a new student? Feel free to talk to your Dons. We are here to help you and we are so looking forward to meeting you! Even if you have questions about anything other than living in res, your Dons are also students with a bunch of connections right all around the GL community!
