William Greaves

William Southworth Greaves, Jr. (September 3, 1935 – September 27, 2014)

It is with great sadness that the Glendon Department of English and the Programme in Linguistics announce the death of our valued colleague, Bill Greaves, of multiple myeloma in his 80th year on Saturday, 27th September at the Princess Margaret Hospital.

A memorial gathering was held at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 8th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. to which all are welcome. A family graveside service and interment will take place at the Belleville Cemetery at a later date.

To honour Bill’s memory, the William Greaves Fund in Linguistics has been created to establish an annual award for excellence in linguistics studies at Glendon College, York University. If desired, donations may be made to this fund (links to the Online Giving webpage and to the pledge Card are below) and/or to Princess Margaret Hospital in his memory.

In due course, a memorial notice detailing Bill’s long and productive years at Glendon will follow.
