First Generation Day

Message from Co-Interim Principals Ian Roberge et Dominique Scheffel-Dunand

October 23 is First Generation Day at York University. Whether you are a Glendon student, staff, faculty member or alumni, and the first of your generation to attend postsecondary education, you are not alone. York is now home to over 12,000 First Generation students. This new university initiative provides us with the opportunity to celebrate and support this unique group of individuals with pride.

Being a First Gen means you are an academic trailblazer who has made his/her dreams come true. You are hard-working, driven and dedicated. You have broken down barriers. It is your courage, perseverance and determination which carried you through to go the distance and reach your goals. This is no small feat. Congratulations on your achievement!

Along with this important opportunity, challenges may arise and difficulties can be encountered. Providing you with the support you need on your road to success is part of the personalized university experience we strive for at Glendon. Never be afraid to ask for help when you need it, and let people know you are a First Gen; there are resources and support systems specifically designed for you.

Join us for First Generation Day activities. Take this opportunity to connect with those at the Keele Campus. Learn about the services that can make your experience at York University more engaging and build meaningful and lasting connections.

First Generation celebrations begin at 10am at Vari Hall. Registration is required for the Academic Forum (for Faculty and Staff) and for the launch of the First Generation Network (geared to all students, staff, faculty and alumni). Learn more by visiting York’s First Generation website.
