The Certificate of Trilingual Excellence will be awarded to those York students who have mastered Spanish in addition to French and English at an advanced academic level, both written and spoken, as assessed through the Examination of Trilingual Excellence.

It recognizes the importance of Spanish in the life of the College and the increasing numbers of Glendon students who have achieved an advanced academic level of proficiency in three languages.

Eligibility

To sit for this exam, students must fulfill the following requirements:

Non-hispanophone students must:

  • be registered in a York degree program.
  • fulfill the relevant second-language requirement as set out in the regulations for the Certificate of Bilingual Excellence.
  • have obtained or be reasonably certain of obtaining a minimum grade of B in 18 credits taken in Spanish. Courses that are acceptable are: SP courses at the 2000 level or above.

Hispanophone students must:

  • be registered in a York degree program.
  • fulfill the relevant second-language requirement as set out in the regulations for the Certificate of Bilingual Excellence.
  • obtain the approval of the Coordinator for the Bilingual/Trilingual Excellence Exam.

Courses taken outside of York University that meet the above criteria are acceptable for the purposes of sitting for the Glendon examination of trilingual excellence.

End of October: Application is available through Academic Services, acadservices@glendon.yorku.ca.

November: Information Session is held regarding the exam proceedings and award requirements.

December: Deadline to submit application form to Academic Services, acadservices@glendon.yorku.ca. 

*Note: There is a non-refundable fee of $75.

Winter Semester: Exams are held.
