What is the Language Immersion Program?
The Language Immersion Program is an educational and cultural experience designed to immerse participants in their target language. The program offers a wide range of benefits such as:
- Learning or improving French or English skills through an accelerated and immersive experience;
- Connecting with other people from across Canada;
- Experiencing a different culture and way of life;
- Building confidence by practising French or English with fellow language learners;
- Developing independence by travelling to and living in another part of the world.

Program Overview
Morning classes and afternoon seminars run from Monday to Friday. These are an integral part of the program. Morning classes focus on developing your skills in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Afternoon seminars focus on speaking and listening to improve conversational skills.
Benefit from participating in scheduled social activities that begin when classroom learning ends. They take place in the evening and on weekends, and are all included in the program at no additional fee. Activities include movie nights, dance lessons, sports, talent shows, etc.
Participate in the numerous trips we take to fun and exciting destinations and attractions across the city and beyond! Trips vary by program, but some examples include:
- Blue Jays Game
- Toronto Zoo
- CN Tower
- Canada’s Wonderland
- Ripley’s Aquarium
Accommodation and Facilities
The Hilliard and Wood residences offer traditional dormitory-style rooms. Each room includes a single bed, desk, chest of drawers, waste garbage can and chair. Bathrooms and common rooms are shared by members of each floor.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are offered each day of the program in Glendon’s cafeteria. The menu is varied and includes vegetarian, vegan and halal options (buffet-style).
Meal times
Breakfast: 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Lunch: 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm
Dinner: 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm
Anyone requesting a special diet for any reason, such as food allergies or medically certified health problems, must personally provide us with documented evidence.
Note: Unfortunately, participants are not permitted access to a kitchen under any circumstances.
The Leslie Frost Library boasts a remarkable collection of over 300,000 documents in French, English and Spanish, as well as a vast assortment of electronic resources. Individual desks and computerized workstations provide quiet study spaces.
The Glendon Athletic Club is a 55,000-square-foot fitness center located on the Glendon campus.
Participants will have the opportunity to use the Glendon Athletic Club during their socio-cultural activities.
Please note that participants from the Language Immersion Programs for 13-14 or 14-15 year olds are not permitted to purchase a GAC membership.
Washing and drying machines are available in both residence buildings. You’ll need your YU visitor’s card to pay for use of the machines. This card will be given to you on your first day. If you lose this card, you will have to buy another one for CAD $5. Please return the card to us at the end of the program, so that we can recycle it properly.
Participants must bring their own laundry products (detergent, etc.). Washing machines accept liquid or powder detergents (capsules are not permitted).

Program fees include administrative fees, classroom instruction, mandatory daytime program activities, and provide access to optional programming/activities offered on campus during the evening. Optional off-campus weekday and weekend excursions are available at an additional cost.
*All students living on campus must pay a $250 security deposit, which will be refunded upon program completion, provided no damages are caused to Glendon residence or property.
