Language learning is a powerful tool for fostering Canadian culture and identity, helping participants appreciate the country’s linguistic diversity and shared heritage. As a teacher, you’ll not only design dynamic lessons but also actively share and enrich participants’ knowledge of Canadian culture; both in class and through their second language.
Job Title: French and/or English Language Teacher
Job Type: Full-time, up to 35 hours/week
Salary: Starting at $35.00, based on qualifications and experience.
Location: This role is fully in person, five days a week, at York University’s Glendon Campus*.
*Housing is not provided for selected candidates.
As a Teacher for the Explore and Destination Clic programs, you will:
- Plan and deliver French or English language lessons, focusing on the development of grammatical, speaking, listening, and reading skills, aligned with Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) levels.
- Create and adapt lesson content according to students’ language proficiency, ensuring relevance and accessibility at various CEFR levels.
- Design and implement engaging, interactive, and fun in-class activities that enhance language learning and student participation.
- Prepare and lead in-class seminars that encourage the practical application of language skills in real-life contexts and enhance Canadian cultural identity.
- Ensure accurate attendance and behavioural reports are maintained for both classes and seminars, and escalate issues to program administration when necessary.
- Foster a dynamic, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages students’ growth and language development.
Your role will be key in delivering a high-quality, immersive language experience that promotes both linguistic and Canadian cultural enrichment for participants.
To be considered for the role of Teacher for the Explore and Destination Clic programs, you must meet the following criteria:
- Holds an undergraduate degree and a teaching diploma and/or degree in French as a Second Language (FSL), English as a Second Language (ESL), or French as a First Language (FFL)*.
- Demonstrates strong proficiency in the language taught (French or English).
- Valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check (required for summer sessions only).
- Proficiency in a second language (French or English) is an asset.
These qualifications ensure you are well-prepared to provide high-quality language instruction and foster a dynamic, immersive learning environment for participants.
*Applicants who have partially completed their BEd qualification, who hold a conditional Certificate of Qualification and Registration with the Ontario College of Teachers and/or hold a certificate in teaching an additional or foreign language (such as D-TEIL, TESL, TEFL, CELTA, DAEFLE, FLE, etc.) may also be considered.
The training session for the Explore and Destination Clic programs is designed to prepare you for the dynamic nature of teaching in an immersive language environment. It will provide you with a thorough understanding of the program’s objectives, daily schedule, and effective strategies for engaging students.
Explore only: a grading framework for each CEFR level, detailing language and cultural-based competencies required for participants to achieve the requirements of each language level, will also be provided during the training.
Summer Training: June 30, 2026*
Training is paid and will take place on campus, offering a hands-on learning experience in a supportive environment, ensuring you are well-prepared to lead and teach with confidence.
*A student orientation will take place immediately preceding teacher training. We ask that you be present at the student orientation, to briefly introduce yourself to the participants.
Explore and Destination Clic teachers are expected to work throughout the program period, with the exception of weekends and July 1, 2026, in observance of Canada Day, and August 3, 2026, in observance of the Civic Holiday.
