Job Title: French and/or English Language Monitor
Job Type (shifts scheduled flexibly, based on your availability, over a 7-day period, with 2 days off per week):
- Full-time contract: Up to 35 hours/week
Contract Duration:
- Employment Period: June 22 to August 7, 2026
- Incoming Glendon Students: Flexible start dates can be arranged.
Salary: Starting from $18.25 + room and board*
Location: Glendon College, York University
*Full-time positions may include on-campus residence accommodation, with housing priority given to monitors residing far away from Glendon. Meals are provided to staff while on shift.
As a Monitor for the Explore and Destination Clic programs, you will:
- Attend and actively participate in team and staff training and meetings.
- Speak to participants in their target language at all times, for the entire duration of each program.
- Organize and deliver program-wide events on campus that promote language learning and cultural exchange.
- Facilitate engaging socio-cultural activities on campus to enrich participants’ experiences.
- Escort participants on local, off-campus excursions, ensuring their safety and engagement.
- Assist with administrative tasks to support program operations.
- Conduct residence rounds and wellness checks during daytime and evening hours, and perform curfew checks at the designated evening hours to ensure program guidelines are followed.
- If living in residence, ensure overnight supervision, including performing overnight rounds on all residence floors to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for Explore and Destination Clic participants.
- (Optional) Prepare and deliver in-class workshops tailored to participants’ interests and learning goals.
Your role will contribute to fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive community for participants.
To be considered for the role of Monitor for the Explore and Destination Clic programs, you must meet the following criteria:
- Experience organizing and/or leading group activities with participants aged 13-15.
- Bilingual or working towards fluency in French and English.
- Valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Familiarity with the city of Toronto, including its cultural and recreational offerings.
These qualifications ensure you are well-equipped to create a safe, engaging, and memorable experience for participants.
The training period for the Explore and Destination Clic programs is designed to prepare you for the spontaneity and dynamic nature of the role. It will equip you with an understanding of the program’s goals, daily activities, and how to effectively engage with participants.
- Training Week: Monday, June 22 to Friday, June 26, 2026
Training is paid, and lunch will be provided. It will take place on campus, offering a hands-on experience in a supportive environment to ensure you are fully prepared for the job. The training will occur the week before the program officially begins, and will include first aid training.
