Your “assignment” for the February Reading Week: read a book by a Black Canadian writer and participate in community-wide book club discussion in March.

Who: All Glendon students, staff, and faculty members (regardless of language level and ability), are invited to participate in the inaugural Community Book Club facilitated by the Research and Innovation Office.

What: In honour of Black History Month, the Community Book Club invites Glendon students, staff, and faculty to participate in collective readings and discussions about Desmond Cole’s “The Skin We’re In” and Marie-Célie Agnant’s “Femmes au temps des carnassiers” . The goal of the Community Book Club is to engage Glendon students, staff, and faculty in important conversations on topics including, but not limited to: Black History, anti-Black racism, Black identity, and experiences of Blackness, all from within a Canadian context.

When and Where: The Glendon Community Book Club will take place in both languages by offering two separate book selections, and by holding two separate group discussions, each in English and French.

The first meeting of the Glendon Community Book Club will take place on Friday, March 5, 2021 from 3:00–4:30 pm EST via Zoom. The conversation will be facilitated in English about Desmond Cole’s “The Skin We’re In”. Click here to register for the event.

The second meeting of the Glendon Community Book Club will take place on Monday, March 22 from 3:00—4:30 pm EST via Zoom. The conversation will be facilitated in French about Marie-Célie Agnant’s “Femmes au temps des carnassiers”. Click here to register for the event.

Please note that you are welcome to attend either one of the sessions or both!

Important to know: Members who wish to participate in the Community Book Club will be responsible for acquiring their own copy of the selected book titles. The Research Office will make a limited number of books available to participants, with students having priority.
