Paysages de transitionThe students of the Master in Translation Studies at Glendon College, York University, are pleased to announce the 1st Graduate Student Conference in Translation Studies to be held at Glendon College in Toronto on November 21, 2009.

The graduate student conference entitled “Changing Landscapes: Contemporary Issues in Translation Studies” was held on Saturday November 21, 2009 at Glendon College and was a great success! It provided a forum for graduate students to share their work with their peers, professors and members of the professional community, and helped build relationships and foster an informed dialogue among students from various translation programs. A number of research papers dealing with a wide range of themes were presented.

Theme: “Changing Landscapes: Contemporary Issues in Translation Studies

The graduate students of the School of Translation at Glendon College, York University, are pleased to host the first annual graduate student conference in translation, to be held on November 21, 2009 in Toronto.

The conference theme, “Changing Landscapes: Contemporary Issues in Translation Studies/Paysagesde transition: problématiques contemporaines en traductologie”, was chosen to reflect the many new and exciting directions being taken in the field of Translation Studies today.  Our goal is to provide a forum where graduate students carrying out research in translation studies can share the themes and challenges which have captured their attention and imagination. Given the vast and interdisciplinary nature of the field, we welcome submissions in all areas, including but not limited to: 

  • Literary translation
  • Audiovisual translation
  • Interpreting
  • History of translation
  • Comparative literatures
  • Cultural and postcolonial studies
  • Multilingual services
  • Revision and editing
  • Terminology
  • Machine translation and translation memories
  • Translation tools and methodologies
  • Translation in bilingual teaching

This one-day bilingual event will include individual presentations (20 min. each) and a series of one-hour panels. Please send your proposal in English or French (300 words max.) to translation.landscapes@gmail.com by September 15, 2009. Be sure to include the title of your submission, your name, affiliation, and contact information. Participants will be notified of their acceptance by September 30, 2009.
