Information for Applicants with Diagnosed Disabilities
If an applicant believes that her/his academic record may not meet the standard normally required for admission to the program(s) to which she/he has applied at York, they may wish to complete our Extenuating Circumstances for Admission Consideration Form.
This Extenuating Circumstances for Admission Consideration Form allows applicants to tell us about their leadership, community engagement, awards or recognitions that attest to their learning experience, and it also provides the opportunity for applicants to tell us about an extenuating circumstance, health condition or diagnosed permanent disability that may have affected their academic performance.
If you become a Glendon student, you should contact Glendon’s Accessibility, Well-Being and Counselling (AWC) Centre to arrange an appointment with a disabilities counsellor as soon as possible after you accept your offer of admission to arrange for academic accommodations. Make the appointment as soon as possible to ensure that you’re able to make your arrangements in time for your classes to begin!
Degree programs with field placement/practicums
Applying to a professional degree program (e.g. education), we can make accommodations for you in the practicum/field placement setting. These types of accommodations might be different from classroom accommodations due to the particular demands of the learning environment.
Discuss your accommodation needs early in the term with the practicum/field placement coordinator and a disabilities counsellor from Accessibility, Well-Being and Counselling (AWC) Centre.
Disclosure & collaboration
You’ll enjoy greater success in your practicum when you disclose your needs – the earlier, the better. The best process for determining the most appropriate accommodations involves teamwork and effective communication between you, your disabilities counsellor, and your practicum coordinator.
In no way will identifying yourself be a disadvantage to you. Nothing will appear on your academic transcript that would identify you as a student with a disability.
